The Spaniel group (and all other flushing dogs) usually trains on Wednesday and Saturday mornings weather permitting. Training is usually held at the Missouri Headwaters State Park “horse pasture”. Dominique Savoie (406.570.3093) and John Davis are your Spaniel Representatives. We send a detailed email to our group prior to training. We welcome all types and ages of Flushing Dogs to join our group. At our sessions we have Flushing Dogs of all levels of training and experience from started dogs to seasoned hunting companions.
On a typical training day we first work with puppies and then move to the older dogs. There are several experienced spaniel and flushing dog handlers present who can provide sound training advice and assistance for helping develop your spaniel or other flushing dog into a reliable hunting companion. The goal of our training is first and foremost to produce excellent hunting companions. Training includes all aspects of upland hunting work: finding game, flushing game, and retrieving game on land and water.
In addition to our regular training sessions, we sponsor an AKC Spaniel Field Trial in the spring. This trial is a competitive event involving dogs from all over the country. We also sponsor an AKC Spaniel Hunt Test in the spring. Hunt tests are non-competitive events testing the dog to a standard of performance. Hunt tests are open to most dogs that flush game, not just spaniels. The dates of these events are listed in the calendar of events on this web site.
