SUMMARY:Pointing Dog Evaluation
DESCRIPTION:Pointing Dog Evaluation \nWe need 3 or 4 people to help catch birds and will meet at the training grounds Saturday by 6:45AM. We also need someone to pick up the pointer trailer at Sam Robinson’s house and someone to do lunch.  The first braces will start at 7:30AM. If you are in an early brace\, please help with setup and catching birds.  If you are in a late brace\, please stay and help pack up after the event.  Please text your name\, dog’s name\, and dog’s age to Jim Lovell (406) 581-1244 two weeks before the event and also let him know if you can bring the pointer trailer or prepare lunches.  We will email the braces on Tuesday before the PDE.\n\n\nRules  \nEach brace will have 5 quail with 6 quail for the first brace. \n\n A pointed bird will be  5 pts. for the dog.\nA retrieve to the handler will be 5 pts. for the dog.\nAn honor  will be 3 pts. for the dog.\nIf more than one bird flushes from a point\, the dog receives credit for one point\, but may have more than one retrieve.\nSafe gun handling is a requirement at all times.  Do not load more than two shells in your gun at a time.  Keep break-action shotguns open except when you shoot. Keep the breach open in pump shotguns until you shoot.  Keep an empty shell in semi-automatic shotgun breaches except when you shoot.  Store guns safely in your vehicles when not in use. Call a “safety” when it is unsafe to shoot at a bird that has been pointed.  Some examples of times to call a safety: the bird flies toward the gallery\, the bird flies toward another person  in the field\, the bird flies across the county road.  If in doubt call a safety and don’t shoot. If a safety has been called the dog receives credit for the retrieve. Unsafe shooting will result in disqualification of the handler/shooter and dog. Adherence to the safety rules will be administered by the MHGDC event director and MHGDC board members present.
