The retriever group is established for the purpose of training personal gun dogs of the retrieving variety. We welcome all dogs, regardless of breeding, whether registered or not. We have a very diverse mix of versatile dogs, labs and retrievers in the group, from young pups to old seasoned, mature dogs. As with many pastimes, dog owners have different ideas of what is the best breed and how dogs should be trained to perform. We respect that and don’t promote any one breed or training program over any other. Our members have a wealth of experience training in many ways and are eager to help less experienced trainers bring their dogs to their full potential. We strongly believe that this group meets so that you, the dog owner, can work on and spend time connecting with your dog on whatever you view to be the next and most important step in your training journey.
The Retriever group meets weekly at the training grounds on Carpenter Road at the Missouri Headwaters State Park between Three Forks and Logan. Training sessions usually start in early April and finish at the end of August. As a Club, this group is equipped with all of the tools and resources one may need to improve and perfect those retriever skills. While we do not work with live birds, we do provide opportunities to train with bumpers and dead birds.
The Club does have affiliation with the Hunting Retriever Club (HRC, www.hrc-ukc.com ).The HRC is a family oriented organization that was formed with the primary philosophy of “…conceived by Hunters for Hunters”. The HRC program takes pride in its efforts to make their Hunt Tests reflect an actual day’s hunt. Aside from safety, hunting realism is the number one goal the judges should be focusing on.
Whether it be working on the basics with a young dog or training to take the next step towards that HRC event this Retriever group is made for everyone and most importantly to let the dogs have fun!
We invite you to join us and come out with your dog to train so that both of you are prepared for a perfect opening day!
Thanks!
