Membership in the Missouri Headwaters Gun Dog Club is $45 per year. We hold a non-exclusive use permit with the Missouri Headwaters State Park who allow us to train with pen-raised birds and live ammunition.
Membership Benefits
- Access to pen-raised birds for training purposes. The MHGDC purchases game birds and pigeons to help train your gun dog.
- Organized training once to twice per week during the training season (April through August). Depending on your individual preference, you can train alone or ask for help from other more experienced handlers. On some occasions, there will be drills set up that everyone is welcome to go through.
- Camaraderie with other bird hunters. During training and events, meet and share stories with other bird hunters in the area. Many friendships have been formed through the club through our common love of watching good dogs do the work they are bred for. Could you use a hunting partner? Or maybe a new pup? You’d be surprised what you can find through participating in MHGDC.
- Organized events are held several times a year. The spaniel group has formal and fun events throughout Spring and early Summer. The pointing group has a fun trial every month that many handlers schedule their summers around. The retriever group is affiliated with the Hunting Retriever Club and they compete in formal events a couple of times a year.
- The club also holds a member banquet once a year in late Winter or early Spring. Be sure to bring some extra cash for live and silent auctions, as well as chances on some other valuable prizes. A raucous time is had by all, and it is the time of year when bragging about our hunting season is the topic of choice.
Other Benefits
Other benefits include supporting the training ground that we are permitted to use through the department of Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks. We work closely with Missouri Headwaters State Park staff to maintain the property called the Horse Pasture. Each year your dues pay for noxious weed control on the property. We provide additional funds when needed such as providing gravel to maintain the driveway and parking area. MHGDC is appreciative of the ground we use and are working closely with state officials to ensure we are able to use the property for years to come.
Land Fund
You will find a spot on the membership form for the Larry Michnevich Memorial Land Fund. This is a request for an additional donation that goes directly into our land fund for future training grounds. Larry was our first president and the fund was started in his honor. Growing this fund is about the future of our training and events, and we appreciate anything additional you can offer.
