       Monthly Spaniel Report

The spaniels are training Saturday mornings. I would like to thank all of you who attended the annual meeting and helped make it a success. We should all thank the spaniel members who donated items for the raffle and auction. They are; Larry Michnevich, Ross Bruner, Kyle Barner, Randy and Tracy Setzer and myself. The Top Dog Award went to Greg Johnson’s Tori, Larry Michnevich's Beam was second, just about everybody else tied for third. Outstanding achievement awards were bestowed upon Robert and Dede Griffins Annie, John Wright's Seer and Owen Metcalf’s master hunter Belle. Cheryl Johnson received a certificate for her senior hunter Desi. Greg Keeler will perform at our annual meeting in 2008. The next flushing dog fun trial will be March 10. If you would like to run a dog please let me know.

Two club spaniels earned placements in National competitions in 2006! Congratulations to John Wright and Seer for placing 2nd in the Canadian Nationals and Robert and Dede Griffin and their cocker spaniel Annie for placing 2nd in the Cocker Nationals. Annie is also high point dog of the year.

The 2006 summary of the clubs income and expenses was presented at the last board meeting. If you would like a copy let me know.

Spaniel members who have not paid their 2007 dues please do so.

Because field trials and other sporting competitions are moving further from the hunting experience. The Flushing Dog Fun Trials were started, held the second Saturday of every month March through August. It is one of the few events where you can walk along and see the action. This is the only field trial in the country where the dogs are scored on natural and trained ability and the hunter is scored on ethical behavior, shooting skills and safety. This trial is for the amateur hunter. All flushing breeds are welcome.

The goal of our training is first and foremost to produce excellent hunting companions. We also train for field trials and hunt tests. Training includes all aspects of spaniel work: finding game, flushing game, and retrieving game on land and water.

We put on an annual AKC sponsored field trial and hunt test. This trial is a competitive event involving dogs from all over the country. Hunt tests are non-competitive events testing the dog to a standard of performance. We also host flushing dog fun trials which are low-key, mildly competitive trials for all flushing breeds.

We train on most Saturday's year round weather permitting. All are welcome to come out.
